Solar Punk in Halle
Student interaction for University of Art and Design Halle. 2024.
About:
The new, fresh Solarpunk movement is increasingly unfolding its potential, not only from an ecological perspective but also from a creative one. The opportunity to design utopian visions of the future fits perfectly with one of the core principles of Solarpunk – do no harm. With my project, I want to give people the chance to develop their own visions for the city of Halle. Based on three inconspicuous places in the city, such as Riebeckplatz, the marketplace, and Neustadt Passage, everyone can contribute their ideas on how these places could look after renovation. With this application, I want to encourage each of us to think about how technology can live in harmony with nature.
This interactive application is very easy to use. You need to choose one of the three sketches of places in Halle, color it in, and scan it with a scanner. As a result, you can see how the video of the selected place changes, and ultimately, your own drawn image of the place appears in the video. Vuforia – an AR plugin for Unity – helps to recognize the image. It contains pre-loaded sketches of the city's places, which helps the webcam recognize the image, capture it, and insert it in the right place. This makes it possible to instantly transfer the image from the real world to the digital world, from a small sketch on a piece of paper into a utopian world of animation.
